THIS Map
IS THE NATIONAL GEOGRAPHIC MAGAZINE ( the April issue "Climate Change"
published in 2009 . This is a Temperature increase map. Actual temperatures
vary wildly .Map shows an average increase of 3.6 deg.F. Some Arctic
areas increased 26 deg F five years ago. The world average is estimated at
1deg Celsius (1.5 F). Oceans affect land mass temperatures and cool the
planet. Drought status is determined by local opinion about past rainfall
and moisture (ground water) planting experience, the present outlook about
the snow pack, weather forecasts, and market conditions. Usually county
commissioner's information comes from consulting these resources: government
agencies, the Weather Bureau, Forest Service, USGS, BLM, Dept of
Agriculture, other state and federal inputs, and Farm Bureaus etc. Drought
policy emerges. ( more on this later).
Background
CEEI
has written to the UNEP to do 190 nation survey that would compile national
drought documents all those countries experiencing drought during the
2005 period. It's publication for all students would be revealing about
their own country and everyone else's too. The UNEP said yes. but can't
afford it. CEEI will publish this drought information. It should help bring
all nations together to help solve this huge planet problem. CEEI sharing .http://www.ceei-news.org/contents.php CEEI
web sites: www.apsrs.org www.esew.org www.ceei-climate.org www.ceei-news.org www.eco-pedia.org
CEEI sees the need for all communities to share this kind of climate
information.
To accomplish this, there are two tasks. One: To
see if there is enough interest to gather climate change knowledge AND PUT
IT into local areas, counties, parishes, and burroughs within reporting
weather regions. The other is to build a reporting tree through existing
networks.CEEI sees this is a way to connect to these communities with local
info. its up to the schools and the colleges and universities and their
students to to do this. ( the equivalent in provinces)
CEEI believes
that any climate world agreement would be also served by providing drought
reports compiled based upon actual local ground ASSESSMENT that reflect the
actual drought local reports. that people will understand because they
experienced it.
In the mean time Each country is welcome to send
their compiled National Drought Reports to CEEI. PO 1778 Sun
Valley 83353,USA or to Drought Paper ceei@cox.net
CEEI will send back a compiled copy of all 190 or so, countries .(We have to
start some where) In the mean time. . . . . .

Planet Status
In
calendar year 2005, the planet experienced one of the worst drought and
climate impacts of the decade. MOST REPORTS cited lost crops and or people
being drastically short of rain. Temperatures rose in northern regions AS
HIGH AS 25 deg F . WHOLE FORESTS ARE SEVERELY DAMAGED IN SOME PARTS OF
ALASKA, AND PERMAFROST IS THAWING and huge amounts of methane is being
released, IN THE HIGH REGIONS OF ALASKA AND SIBERIA. ( the size of France
and Germany) put together.
In Eastern Africa right now drought is of
major concern with 23,000,000 people now at risk . Kenya farmers have lost
their second crop of maze in a row. DAR FUR REGION IS ESPECIALLY HARD HIT.
OXFAM MADE AN APPEAL 6 MONTHS AGO. ( LONDON BASED). TO THE WORLD TO PREPARE
FOR MORE OF THE SAME CONDITIONS. We have had our droughts in Georgia ,
floods, on the east coast, and now in Arkansas. SOME INUIT NATIVE TRIBES
PEOPLE WILL HAVE TO RELOCATE. Soon. ! it is clear this planet is under
attack. by an stronger imbalance between primary sources of light/heat
energy , and the planet's propensity to shield itself ( all living plants
and animals are affected). These Climate Change forces are on a huge scale .
So huge that science is having problems wrapping their arms around it., and
these problems and impacts are piling up. The climate scientists need the
support of all of the academic community. Politics and politicians
tactics are simply attacking the messenger to discredit the message. But you
cannot fool a storm, and you cannot hide climate change. BUT
People seem to understand this after the British Petroleum/Gulf oil blow out
disaster.
The ACIA Arctic Climate impact Assessment funded by
Congress, was ignored 5 years ago. SEE the ( www.ceei-climate.org.
and http://www.acia.uaf.edu/pages/scientific.html )
Climate scientists were ridiculed, and academic communities, became fearful
that the last administration saw the climate problem as a nuisance
that got in the way of national security (oil procurement, and associated
political problems from middle-east). In the mean time planet impacts have
been building (the Katrina Hurricane hit the Gulf area). Its turns out
that our country was the least prepared for natural disasters despite a new
reorganization by Congress. Home land Security was formed to protect
America from terrorists, and hardly a nickel for climate science. In the
mean time the Pentagon was studying the threats of Climate Change.
IMPORTANT CEEI PROJECTS
CEEI started 6 years ago,
researching the climate and associated environmental impacts . CEEI uploads
5000 line items a day from 200 sources, into 1071 climate categories which
now total 13,000,000 archives. In three months the CXCSAS CEEI
X Climate Status Assessment System will be be ready. (its 99% done).
Purpose to allow students 9th grad on up. access to the internet climate
and solid associated information. to produce research and assessment papers
They can download soon up to 30,000 line items, run their own search terms,
get a print out of further links, an out line, more links, and finally
come out with current info (that can be checked,) for a current
paper for any classroom. No more goose chases for information 80% of their
time is saved. We deal at the moment with the climate. The potential for
solving one problem by 10,000,000 students would generate 2 trillion
search connections.
Whether students are into in art, history,
law, sociology, foreign relations, or science and engineering career. They
save *80% of their time, cover twice as much territory, and they can share
all this new information with all other students. ( in effect their teachers
could be teaching to 20,000,000 other kids everywhere via the papers that
these kids are now producing. (The students can share their
information with local papers, school publications and the CEEI eco-pedia (
another CEEI web site). School Boards need to update their thinking
will have to pay attention. What is happening right now in education ? Our
government structures are falling apart anyway. LA schools have 50% drop out
rates.National dropout rates are reported at 27%. What a mess ! Studies say
that students are bored . The other reasons stated seem to be reasonable.
Parents need to understand their responsibility to see their kids get a
trade and if not, promote their kids interests and passion to learn.
CEEi has
one project lined up in Kenya to help Maasai Mara schools and territories
survey their drought areas. Ten teams with digital cameras and text, with
solar chargers, battery, transceivers. and laptops. Students with teachers,
will do phenology studies on animals, plants, streams etc. Reports will
focus on Kenya, students needs, and look like a CEEI-news web site headline
except it will say "Kenya Students" . Server computer service and satellite
service is free.
Education now is treated as if information is
scarce. This is no longer true. US education and (all bricks and
mortar institutions) are out of date. Check out the University of Illinois
Springfield campus. The entire catalog is now on the internet.( you can have
a conference with your professor who lives in Florida, even if
you live in Las Vegas. Tax rates will plummet Many people see this future,
many don't. Congress clearly doesn't get it. .They still want subsidies for
bankers, insurance companies, oil companies.schools, farmers, almost
everybody, which is killing our form of democracy and our economy.
CEEI is
hoping by direct communication to connect with the information the media
refuses to print. Mainly they gave up on the Clean Water Act 20 years ago.
Not one stream name was mentioned in news articles when the 1994 polluted
stream lists were first published on the net. They found out early that too
many people would pull advertising and stop subscribing if they talked
about, and printed, the 303d polluted stream lists. Only dog and pony show
news were permitted.( Most schools get their info from the local papers).
STUDENT PARTICIPATION SUPER IMPORTANT. 3 Options
1. CEEI is APPEALING to all STUDENTS . . . . . . to help CEEI to
compile all your countries regional drought info reports ASAP and
to help establish 2009 benchmark info based on local and regional
information and impacts on the local communities That will be the essence of
what is in your research paper. Your state or REGION AREA should have a
Regional drought REPORT Send them an e-mail ! US , CANADA AND
MEXICO NOW HAVE A PROGRAM THAT IS VERY COMPREHENSIVE ADMINISTERED BY NOAA,
NASA, USDA, THE DROUGHT Monitor SURVEY, AND THE NCDC National CLIMATE DATA
CENTER, US DEPT OF COMMERCE. See a search engine. Most Agriculture and
commerce Govt offices will have this information. Many countries are
listed that combine this info in their eco systems report. with their
eco systems.
http://www.ceei-news.org/major.php?majorID=13&name=GOOGLE+STATUS+Drought
2, Students can simply send their environment or climate papers to
Drought paper ceei@cox.net
Papers
already on your hard drive post it to CEEI's website www.eco-pedia.org or
e-mail to eco paper ceei@cox.net Name,
school, college, country and subject of your paper. (in the subject column)
do it now .
3 Question why it is that after
thirty years there is no mention of mercury (contaminated fish) in the the
EPA 30,000 polluted streams list ?CEEI believes that there are 200,000 to
400,000 polluted streams that are missing from these Clean Water Act lists. www.apsrs.org
Right now there is a law suit pending against the
EPA citing the Clean Water Act and the Clean air Act. it is believed that
mercury reported on NPR, has been used by 26 gold mines in Nevada for twenty
years sending 300 tons of airborne mercury into 5 surrounding states. These
states in turn have sued Nevada to stop. CEEI is wondering why no mercury
listing was found on the Idaho 303d lists (and all the others)CEEI Clean
Water Act.See www.apsrs.org the mining
has not stopped.
http://www.ceei-news.org/major.php?majorID=241&name=*+BULLETIN+CEEI+STANDS+BY+IT%27S+REPORT
See the
CEEI www.apsrs.org for polluted streams
as well as drought and mercury conditions./ See the EPA 303d polluted stream
reports.at Ceei's www.apsrs.org they are
filed by state. Mercury problems are discussed at www.apsrs.org and
under "CEEI Stands by it's Report". There is a whole body of info that is
not being reported by either EPA the Clean Air Act or the Clean Water
Act. The entire coal fired plant emissions east of the Mississippi, ( 0ver
200 plants) there are no streams reported with mercury ! WHY ? Consult
public heath records that apply to your region. and area for the Giarda
omissions and mercury poisoning. Unique research about the mercury
status in your state and the Clean Water and Clean Air Acts in your state
and local area (Mercury testing is expensive unless you have fish
samples). www.apsrs.org Finally CEEI
believes that that if students decide to do this paper You can
add your paper to your resume a big plus. and include a copy of your paper
to your congressman or woman. Where do you see a page labeled "climate",
and what paper wants to print 5000 climate stories a day ?
PEP
TALK
The future of this planet depends on whether you get it
right. Global climate change is no longer debatable. The evidence is
in. CEEI wants to empower you to do this for yourself. Remember it is also
a people problem as well as a scientific one. Most businesses are waiting
for some one to say the future is now in energy, food, and
health care ,and transportation systems and everyone has a piece of
it. Many people don't realize this. Many are hanging on to fear. they don't
want to upset the apple cart they know. It's time to Take charge !
PHILOSOPHY INCLUDES SOLUTIONS Ask your professor for some guidance.
CEEI suggests write up what you want to do.( an outline and
strategy) Get additional get help from your professor. He or she
can guide you and suggest short cuts and over all strategy. Help you
navigate through the do's and don'ts. CEEI has tried to keep it simple by
building on each weather region. sticking to published info for reference
etc but still with the objective to coming up with a bench mark year that
will make sense. The 2006 should be done to see if 2006 info is valid. 2009
a good year to establish new bench mark ( it is now published) info
that will make it easier the next time. and give a lot of info
that students and the public can use and understand.
http://www.ceei-news.org/major.php?majorID=13&name=GOOGLE+STATUS+Drought
The fact that not only do coal fired plants produce co2 but they are
producing unheard of and unreported amounts of mercury ! the EPA has a
problem. Does public health or the planet come first ! This EPA needs to act
! The President needs to be told of the 20 years that the EPA allowed
mercury to be airborne over 5 western states from Nevada spreading 300 tons
of mercury from 26 Nevada gold mines.( at the moment Nevada faces 5
lawsuits, EPA faces two. more.
News of six state law suits against
Nevada and another against the EPA are just surfacing.
http://www.ceei-news.org/major.php?majorID=241&name=*+BULLETIN+CEEI+STANDS+BY+IT%27S+REPORT
The ICL Idaho Consrvation League filed against the
EPA in March 2010. Get a copy of that suit from CEEI.
Mercury changes structure at high temperatures and
can freely circulate. it is also highly toxic to all life ! The suit
maintains that EPA has allowed gold mining spreading 300 tons mercury for 20
years in Nevada. This material drifted over all the neighboring states.
Mercury can be emitted to the atmosphere in 3
forms: gaseous elemental mercury (GEM), reactive gaseous mercury (RGM),
and particulate mercury (HgP). These 3 forms can also inter convert in
the atmosphere. On time scales of 0.5-1.5 years, there is a net oxidation
of GEM to RGM in the atmosphere (some of which goes onto particles to
create HgP). The RGM and HgP are scavenged very efficiently by rainfall
while GEM is not (since it isn't very soluble in water). RGM and HgP can
also "dry deposit", which happens when those species contact surfaces and
"stick". Dry deposition is very hard to measure compared to wet
deposition, but is estimated to account for less than 50% of total Hg
deposition. So, wet deposition is the biggest term, and is mostly RGM
that was scavenged during rain events.
The Hg in the atmosphere is
mostly GEM (>90%) with some RGM and HgP.
A coal-fired power plant
emits mostly RGM (50-75%) and GEM (25-50%) and very little HgP. Other
industrial activities emit different proportions of RGM vs. GEM. The RGM
from any source can deposit locally (within 10-200km) while the GEM joins
the "global" pool of GEM and is transported around the hemisphere within
a few weeks. Atmospheric mixing across the equator is slow, so Hg emitted
in the northern hemisphere (where most industry takes place) does not mix
across the equator very effectively.
Natural sources of Hg to the
atmosphere (volcanoes, emission from Hg rich deposits, etc.) are mostly
GEM.
Hope this helps. William Landing PhD Florida

addendum
This
brings up what to do about coal fired power plants in india and China, They
are sending mercury via the wind to North America, where is there a place
that is free of mercury ! Perhaps 10 to 15 degrees above and below the
equator ? And we tolerate coal that is blasting our own people. Not one
listing of mercury in the 303 reports of polluted streams in Idaho. www.apsrs.org is
a ceei web site. The EPA says we have 300 tons of mercury, over 20 years, in
the Idaho Rockies and 6 other states. Yet there is none in Idaho according
to the EPA 303d reports in Idaho and in the rest of the country. Yet
we know that coal at combustion temperature produces mercury and lots of it.
Those lists have been vetted 3 times. Why is this.? What is going on in Wash
DC for 30 years ? Does Congress deliberate lie to its self ? How do they
account for 200 coal plants belching mercury for a hundred years ? ( let
alone the c02)
